Mission Point Resort has been named one of the Midwest’s top travel destinations, earning a 2026 Best of the Midwest Award from Midwest Living magazine.

The annual awards, selected by the publication’s editors, recognize standout destinations across the region that exemplify hospitality, innovation, and a strong sense of place.

For Mission Point Resort, the recognition highlights both its scenic setting along Mackinac Island’s Sunrise Side and its continued evolution as a family-owned property. The Ware family, which remains closely involved in the resort’s operations, has overseen ongoing improvements aimed at enhancing the guest experience while preserving the resort’s historic character.

Set on 18 acres of waterfront property, Mission Point offers a range of amenities including multiple dining venues, seasonal programming, and hands-on guest experiences. Recent additions include new culinary concepts such as Adirondacks Pizza, along with upgraded accommodations and expanded activities designed to reflect the island’s unique atmosphere.

“As a family-owned and operated seasonal resort in Northern Michigan, this award is especially meaningful to us as Midwest Living is the leader in showcasing the magnificent stories, attractions and scenery in our region for 40 years now,” said Liz Ware, the resort’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “We are incredibly honored to receive this recognition from Midwest Living.”

The recognition comes as Mission Point prepares for its 2026 season, which begins April 30. Planned updates include improvements to Main Lodge guest rooms, expanded culinary programming, and enhancements to the resort’s fitness center. The season will also feature special offerings tied to the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Mission Point Resort is the largest family-owned resort on Mackinac Island and continues to position itself as a destination for vacations, conferences, and special events, blending historic charm with modern amenities.
