Mackinac Island’s community theater is preparing to raise the curtain on one of musical theater’s most iconic and chilling productions. Next week, the Mackinac Arts Council will present Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, a Tony Award winning musical known for its gripping story and unforgettable score.
The production explores themes of ambition, consequence, and redemption, all set within a shadowy and suspenseful world. While the story itself is famously dark, the Island’s cast and crew are bringing their own depth, care, and energy to every scene.
In the final days leading up to opening night, rehearsals are in full swing. Performers have been refining music, memorizing lines, and shaping each moment on stage, while the production team puts the finishing touches on sets and costumes designed to capture the spirit of the story. Under the guidance of the show’s directors, the result is a dynamic blend of music, movement, and storytelling.
Audiences can expect a thoughtfully crafted performance that showcases the talent and dedication of the Island’s theater community.
Performances are scheduled for April 17 at 7 pm and April 18 at 2 pm and 7 pm.
