One of Mackinac Island’s most beloved traditions returns this week as the 2026 Mackinac Island Lilac Festival kicks off Friday, June 5, and continues through June 14.

Now recognized as the largest and most historic event on Mackinac Island, the 10-day festival celebrates the Island’s world-famous lilacs and their deep connection to the community’s history and culture. This year’s theme, “Stop and Smell the Lilacs,” invites residents and visitors alike to slow down and enjoy the beauty of the Island’s peak bloom season.

The festival features a packed schedule of events for all ages, including the Lilac Queen Coronation, official poster reveal, lilac walking tours, gardening and planting seminars, live music, family activities, athletic events, and the iconic Grand Parade.

Among the festival highlights are the annual 10K Run/Walk, bounce houses and family entertainment, a Michigan Cornhole tournament, and opportunities to learn more about the Island’s historic lilac varieties through guided tours and educational programs.

Mackinac Island is home to hundreds of lilacs and dozens of unique varieties, many of which have flourished on the Island for generations. The festival has celebrated this floral heritage since 1949, drawing thousands of visitors each year to experience the vibrant blooms that line streets, parks, and historic homes.

Festival events take place throughout Mackinac Island and are designed to showcase not only the lilacs themselves but also the community spirit, history, and charm that make the Island a unique destination.

A full schedule of events and festival information is available through the Mackinac Island Tourism Bureau.
