Mackinac State Historic Parks is inviting visitors to step back into the 18th century and celebrate the 288th birthday of King George III on Thursday, June 4, at Colonial Michilimackinac as part of the site’s America250 programming.

The day-long celebration begins at 9:00 a.m. and recreates one of the most important holidays observed by British soldiers and civilians stationed at Michilimackinac during the 1700s.

Throughout the day, guests can experience a variety of special programs exploring British military traditions, colonial life, and the growing tensions that shaped the era leading up to the American Revolution.

One of the day’s highlights takes place at noon with a ceremonial artillery salute featuring the firing of the mortar, wall gun, and cannon. Later in the afternoon, visitors can gather at the Commanding Officer’s House for patriotic toasts and refreshments while learning about the customs and symbolism behind 18th-century British toasting traditions.

Additional featured programs include Attack 1763: Michilimackinac and the Anglo-Indian War, which examines the tensions surrounding the historic attack on the fort during King George’s birthday festivities, and a tea-focused presentation at the British Trader’s House exploring the social complexities of British society in the 1770s.

All special programming is included with regular admission to Colonial Michilimackinac.
