The Mackinac Arts Council continues to bring light, laughter, and creativity to the colder months with a lineup of free, welcoming winter workshops and activities designed to get people moving, making, and connecting.

On Monday evenings in January, voices filled the room during the I Can’t Sing Chorus, a joyful, no-pressure gathering led by instructor Paul Ellinger. There’s no experience required, no judgment, and no cost, just the simple pleasure of singing together. Whether you swear you “can’t sing” or already love to belt it out, this chorus is about joy, not perfection.

Also taking the floor this winter are Ballroom Dancing Classes, led by instructor Heather May. Perfect for beginners and those looking to brush up on their moves, these relaxed and supportive classes invite everyone to dance it out, no partner or experience needed. From Rhumba and Cha-Cha to Waltz, Tango, and East Coast Swing, the focus is on movement, connection, and fun.

Upcoming Ballroom Dancing Classes:
February 2, 2026 - Waltz & Tango
February 16, 2026 - East Coast Swing & Recap Dance Party

And the season of creativity continues. On February 9, 2026, the Mackinac Arts Council will host Jewelry & Housewares Making with Jena Gruits, founder of Cayenne & Cake. This hands-on class invites participants to explore their creative side while learning directly from a maker who blends artistry and craftsmanship.

All events are free and open to all, reinforcing what the Mackinac Arts Council does best: creating accessible, meaningful opportunities for the community to come together, especially during the quiet beauty of winter.
